Thanking the crowd for supporting the demonetisation drive, Modi says the country needs to get rid of not only “kaala dhan” (black money) but also “kaala man” (evil intentions).
Modi says that he is “fighting to make the honest, powerful”. “In one stroke, fake notes, terrorism, human trafficking, drug mafia were dealt with after demonetisation,” he says.
Modi made a strong pitch for demonetisation saying that the move is aimed to weed out corruption from the country and give India its long deserving place.
The country, which was once referred to as a 'Golden Bird', has now become the opposite, Modi says.
Pinpointing graft as the biggest stumbling block in the progress of the country, Modi says that he was voted to power with a majority in 2014 by the people of India “not to cut ribbons and light inaugural lamps”.
He also touched upon the contentious One Rank One Pension scheme (OROP) issue.
“My Army jawans were demanding OROP for the last 40 years, the party that ruled the country then never thought of their demands,” he says.
“Rs 6,600 crore have already been disbursed under OROP and the rest will be disbursed at the earliest,” he tells the crowd.
PM Modi tells the crowd that every village in India will receive electricity in the coming days.
He says that poor families will receive gas connections and that he will see to it that the Char Dham project offers job opportunities for people from all economic backgrounds.
The economy will change completely during my tenure, he promises.
Lashing out at previous governments, Modi said: “There have been governments who haven’t been able to provide even basic facilities to the people of this country”.
“Hasty conception of schemes or advertisements showing happy people may give short term political gains but the gains for people will be limited,” he says as a direct attack at previous governments.
“You have overwhelmed me. I can see so many people and I am happy that women have joined this rally in large numbers,” Modi tells the crowd in Dehradun.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Dehradun, Uttarakhand to address a parivartan rally.
He will also lay the foundation stone of the Char Dham highway project in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.
The PM said that all efforts would be taken to ensure uninterrupted, all-weather safe journeys for pilgrims to the four shrines. “Adding of bypasses, tunnels, bridges and flyovers will ease travel. Proper slope stabilisation will ensure protection against landslides,” Modi said.
