Former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, whose offices and residential premises were raided by the I-T department last week, addressed the media on Tuesday.
“I am being targeted, my life is in danger,” Rao said. He questioned the manner in which the raids were conducted, saying that the CRPF entered his house at gunpoint, which is “unconstitutional”.
“They did not have any search warrant against me. Isn't this an unconstitutional assault? Where's the state government? Who's permission did CRPF get to enter my house?” Rao said while briefing the media.
Rao, who was in combative mode, said: “What did they find? They found Rs 1,12,320 in my house and they found 40-50 sovereigns of gold.”
He insisted that he was still the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu and that the transfer orders had not been served to him. “I am the Chief Secretary appointed by Puratchi Thalaivi Amma, I am still the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu.”
He also rejected reports about his association with businessman Shekhar Reddy, who was recently arrested by the IT department.
He also denied that his son Vivek had got any government contracts. He stated, “I may be a big hurdle to many who think I may be a hardcore man, who abides by Jayalalithaa” and added that he would go to the “people's court”.
He said that if the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had been alive, this would never have happened.
On 21 December, the Income Tax Department conducted raids on several properties linked to Rao – including his office at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat, as well his Anna Nagar residence in Chennai. His son’s house was also raided.
