It was at about 11:30 pm on 5 December that the news of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s death was announced.

Deserted streets, mourning supporters and an atmosphere of shock engulfed the country. The national grieving found space in all leading newspapers, the front pages of which were all about Amma’s life, and death.
