According to a review conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the best performing ministries are Power Ministry headed by Piyush Goyal and Roads and Highways Ministry which is led by Nitin Gadkari, NDTV reported.
The economic affairs secretary, on Friday, presented an update on the work done by each ministry to the PM before he leaves for a four-country tour in Africa on 7 July. Modi, reportedly, wanted such a review every three month.
Telecom and Health were among the underperforming ministries, sources told NDTV. Home, Defence, Finance and Foreign ministries were discussed with only a restricted group of attendees.
A possible cabinet reshuffling is expected next week.
As part of the reshuffle, some state ministers are likely to be elevated to cabinet rank, including Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan, reports suggest.
A few vacancies are likely to be filled, including that created by Sarabananda Sonowal, who was made Chief Minister of Assam.
Junior ministers will be added for Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh – the three states headed for elections.
Law Minister Sadananda Gowda is likely to face a demotion.
