Major Breakthrough Likely in DMK –DMDK Alliance Talks

In a major boost to the DMK’s electoral front in Tamil Nadu, a significant breakthrough has been reached in the alliance talks between the DMK and Vijaykanth’s DMDK, taking the alliance closer to a sealed deal, according to top sources in the DMK.

A source in the Dravdian political major told The News Minute that the deal has been “almost finalised” and that an announcement will be made soon. According to another insider, only a few more details are to be ironed out.

They had asked for 90 seats, but we have almost agreed on 54-59 seats. We hope that things will be finalised in a day or two.

The News Minute has confirmed from various sources that along with Stalin and few other leaders, Kalanithi Maran was also actively involved in the talks and had spoken to Vijayakanth to iron out the issues.

When asked why Kalanithi Maran was part of the talks, a DMK leader retorted, “Well, they both have a lot of common friends and so it happened.”

There are some specifics that are still being discussed. For now, we have agreed that the DMDK will not be part of the state government, if the DMK alliance wins. But they will be part of local bodies and will be given mayoral posts. The numbers are yet to be decided.

In 2011, DMDK aligned with the ruling AIADMK and agreed on contesting 41 seats but things went sour between the two parties post the elections when the AIADMK achieved a majority on its own.

The talks between the two parties have been going on for few weeks now. Though the DMK appears confident about the DMDK joining, sources in the DMDK did not confirm the same.

Meanwhile, DMDK chief Vijaykanth met Union Minister Prakash Javdekar of the BJP on Sunday and spoke about the likelihood of DMDK being part of the NDA alliance.

Last month, Vijaykanth said in a public meeting that he won’t join either with the two Dravidian parties and will play the role of a King and not a kingmaker.
