Counting for the seats of Mungaoli and Kolaras in Madhya Pradesh and Bijepur in Odisha began at 8 am on Wednesday, 28 Febraury. The elections for all three Assembly seats were held on 24 February, with a voter turnout of above 70 percent.
After trailing in the morning, BJP candidate Baisahab Yadav is now leading in Mungaoli against Congress candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav. The Congress candidate was leading with 3,800 votes against the BJP's 105 initially. However, the saffron party caught pace and is now ahead by 305 votes after the second round of counting.
In Kolaras, Congress candidate Mahendra Singh Yadav has taken a lead with 1,256 votes after trailing behind BJP with 247 votes after the first round of counting.
After the second round of counting, the ruling party in Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), is leading in Bijepur. The BJD has increased its lead by more than 5,500 votes, according to India.com.

After the third round of counting, the Congress leads in Mungaoli by 121 votes, while the party has increased their lead by 1,421 votes in Kolaras in Madhya Pradesh.
The Congress has further strengthened its lead over BJP by 1,300 votes in the third round of counting in the Mungaoli bypolls in Madhya Pradesh. In Kolaras too, the Congress has maintained their lead with 207 votes.
On the other hand, the BJD has been dominating Bijepur in Odisha with a lead of over 12,000 votes.
Further strengthening their lead, the ruling party BJD is now leading in Bijepur, Odisha, by more than 25,000 votes, after the 11th round of counting, ANI reported.
The Congress now leads over the BJP by 2,038 votes in Mungaoli, and by 2,474 votes in Kolaras, in the Madhya Pradesh by-elections.
On the other hand, in Odisha, BJD’s lead over the BJP went further up by 32,579 votes in Bijepur.
According to ANI, the Opposition party further strengthened their lead over the BJP in Mungaoli bypoll by 3,834 votes in the seventh round of counting.
With the BJD taking it home in Bijepur by-election, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has tweeted his thoughts on the spectacular performance by his party in the bypolls.
Patnaik thanked party workers for working hard on the election while thanking the people of Bijepur for the love and support they have shown. Patnaik further called for a prosperous and empowered Odisha.
The ruling party in Odisha, the BJD, won the Bijepur Assembly seat with their candidate Rita Sahu securing the seat by a margin of 41,933 votes.
The BJD got a total of 1,02,871 votes, leaving behind the BJP, which garnered 60,938 votes. The Congress, however got only 10,271 votes in the by-election. The BJD had earlier lost the seat to the Congress by 458 votes in 2014.
Odisha CM and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik celebrated his party’s victory in the Bijepur bypolls with party workers by thanking the public for their ‘blessings on the BJD'.
The Congress extended its lead over the BJP by 3,222 votes after the fourteenth round of counting in the Mungaoli Assembly seat, Madhya Pradesh.
The Congress is leading in Madhya Pradesh’s Kolaras Assembly seat by 3,891 votes, after the 12th round of counting.
The Congress continues to lead in Mungaoli with 2,885 votes, in the 16th round of counting.
The Congress’ vote margin thinned in Mungaoli with the party leading by 2,599 votes over the BJP in the 17th round of counting.
In the Kolaras Assembly seat, the Congress has strengthened its lead with a margin of 4,061 votes over the BJP, after the 13th round of counting.
The Congress leads the BJP with a margin of 2,855 votes in the Mungaoli Assembly seat, after the 18th round of counting.
Continuing with its consistent streak, the Congress leads in Kolaras with a margin of 4,379 votes, after the 14th round of counting.
The Congress retains the Mungaoli Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh after defeating the BJP by a margin of 2,124 votes.
The BJP closes in on the Congress’ lead, with the latter party’s lead margin now at 3,143 votes in the Kolaras Assembly seat, after the 15th round of counting.
The Congress continues to lead in Kolaras with a margin of 4,836 votes, after the 16th round of counting.
The Congress strengthens its lead with a margin of 6,296 votes in the 17th round of counting in Kolaras.
The Congress continued leading in Kolaras after the 18th round of counting, with a margin of 6,860 votes.
Senior Congress leader and MP form Madhya Pradesh Jyotiraditya Scindia congratulated Brijendra Singh Yadav on his victory in Mungaoli. He also thanked the Congress party workers, and voters for reposing their faith in the party.
The Congress increased its lead in the Kolaras Assembly seat with a margin of 7,615 votes in the 20th round of counting.
Reacting to his party’s victory in Mungaoli, Jyotiraditya Scindia said:
The Congress won the Kolaras Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh, defeating the BJP by a margin of 8,086 votes.
After trailing in the initial round of counting, the Congress retained the Mungaoli Assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh with 70,808 votes. The party’s candidate Brajendra Singh Yadav won by a margin of 2,124 votes.
The party also retained the Kolaras Assembly seat in the state with 82,523 votes. Congress candidate Mahendra-Ramsingh Yadav Khatora defeated his BJP opponent by a margin of 8,086 votes.
Both seats went to polls on 24 February.
In Bijepur, Odisha, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has won the by-election, polling 1,02,871 votes. The party’s candidate Rita Sahu won by a margin of 41,933 votes.
The counting of votes for the bypolls in Mungaoli and Kolaras in Madhya Pradesh and Bijepur in Odisha began on the morning of Wednesday, 28 February.
