The Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday removed the hoardings exhibiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies at different petrol pumps across the city. The local governing body maintains that the action is being initiated in accordance with the procedure and is not related to the TMC rage against the BJP.
According to the AMC, which is under the TMC rule, notices were served to petrol pumps to pay tax for hoardings of PM Modi. Notices were issued to 40 petrol pumps under the corporation a fortnight ago, said AMC officials.
The lack of response forced the AMC to remove the already installed hoardings. As of Wednesday, 16 hoardings have been removed by the AMC employees and it is expected to continue in the coming days.

Things in West Bengal appear to be heating up by the minute. In the latest incident, a group of men, reported to be TMC workers, allegedly set the BJP office in Hooghly on fire.
The attack came hours after the BJP issued a veiled warning to the TMC, asking the party to “mend its ways” or face consequences. Furious over the attack on the West Bengal BJP headquarters by TMC activists, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya lashed out at City Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar for tuning a “blind eye” to the attack.
West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra walked out of a pre-budget meeting, saying that “there is financial emergency in the country which makes the budget meaningless”.
“ I’m saying with a heavy heart that I walked out of the pre-budget meet after my presentation. The country's growth is being sacrificed,” he said.
TMC workers and MPs protesting outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence were detained on Wednesday afternoon.
Leaders including Kalyan Banerjee and Saugata Roy were detained at the Tughlaq Road Police Station in New Delhi.
Continuing their protests, TMC workers created uproar outside TMC MP Babul Supriyo’s house, a video of which he posted on Twitter.
Trinamool Congress supporters staged a massive rail-roko protest in Cooch Behar, West Bengal over arrest of Bandyopadhyay.
Special CBI court sent TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay to a six day remand. He was produced in Bhubaneshwar Court earlier on Wednesday in connection with the case.
Bandyopadhyay’s lawyer Rajdeep Majumdar had commented on this and said:
Sudip Bandyopadhyay’s wife has registered a complaint against the CBI in Bidhan Nagar, West Bengal, alleging that she was not informed of his arrest. She also alleged that none of the family members were informed as to where Bandyopadhyay was taken after the arrest.
TMC's Chandrima Bhattacharya also filed a complaint against the CBI in the Anandpur police station.
The Trinamool Congress’s Legislative Assembly members will meet the Governor today at 12 pm over TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay’s arrest.
TMC workers, on the other hand, continue to create ruckus in the state. They have blocked NH-2 near Asansol in protest against Bandyopadhyay’s arrest. Several vehicles have been stranded due to the same.
BJP leader Krishna Bhattacharya’s house was attacked late Tuesday night by Trinamool Congress workers, only hours the BJP’s Kolkata office was attacked following the arrest of TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay by the CBI.
The MP was arrested in connection with his involvement in the Rose Valley chit fund scam.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee vowed to take to the streets on Wednesday after Bandyopadhyay’s arrest.
She also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “Trinamool-bandi after note-bandi” alleging that her party is being persecuted for its aggressive campaign against notes ban.
"I am shocked, but not scared. Let him arrest all of us. I openly challenge him to arrest me. Let me see his guts. He may silence others, but not me. He can't suppress our voice. He can't bulldoze people's voice," Banerjee said, "We will fight legal battle in every case."
Moments after Bandyopadhyay was taken into custody by the CBI, violent TMC followers attacked and vandalised the BJP office in Kolkata.
The CRPF was deployed outside the BJP office in Kolkata late on Tuesday evening to control the violent protests.
The CBI had earlier arrested another TMC MP Tapas Paul last week for his alleged links to Kolkata-headquartered Rose Valley, headed by Gautam Kundu. Kundu has been in judicial custody for several months now.
