The BJP on Sunday described the Narendra Modi government’s welfare policies as “revolutionary” and asked the people to take a “pledge” to return him to power in 2019 so that its development policies continue.
A resolution adopted by its National Executive cited measures like the GST, the health policy, the Mudra loans and the Jan Dhan accounts to underscore its pro-poor credentials and asserted that the “pro-poor” plank, which was with the Congress during the Indira Gandhi’s leadership, has shifted to it as the prime minister has earned the trust of the people.
For the first time people are voting for development instead of caste and religious identities, the party claimed, as it cited its massive win in Uttar Pradesh and rise in Manipur to make its point.
“The BJP calls upon the people of our country to take a pledge to form a government under the leadership of Narendra Modi in 2019 in order to have the continuity of development and welfare policies for all in the country,” the resolution said.
Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, after the meeting, spoke of PM Modi’s vision of social and economic equality in the country. He also said that the PM stressed on providing sustainable livelihood to the poor.
Elaborating on the Prime Minister’s ‘Mission 2022’, when India marks 75 years of Independence, Gadkari talked of adopting ‘P2, G2’ – Pro People, Pro Active and Good Governance.
He further said that earlier too, there were many policies launched to help the country, but “bad governance”, “socio-economic discrimination” and other reasons hampered progress.
On the issue of triple talaq, the Union Minister informed that the PM said “if there are social evils, the society should be woken up and efforts made to provide justice”.
ANI also quoted PM Modi as saying:
Intervening in the matter of the backward commission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a NDTV report, said that “more inclusiveness is needed for those who are backward among the Muslim community”.
Union Minister Prakash Javdekar, while addressing a press conference, spoke of the bill granting constitutional status to an OBC commission which has been “completely powerless” and “has been unable to function effectively for the last 25 years”.
A few days back, Lok Sabha had cleared the bill, which “safeguards” the interests of the socially and educationally backward classes, in Lok Sabha with a voice vote, but was blocked by opposition in Rajya Sabha.
“It was BJP’s historic moment after the bill was passed in Lok Sabha. The PM met with OBC leaders from all parties, including the Congress and the BJD, who promised their support to the bill, but now it’s stuck in RS.
Javadekar then spoke of increase in the BJP’s vote share in various states saying:
The Union Minister went on to add that the “opposition did not support our fight against black money and deonetisation, but people showed their support.”
BJP leader Sidharth Nath Singh informed that the next National Executive meet will be held on 15 and 16 July in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
PM Modi on Sunday met the descendants of historical Paika Rebellion martyrs, who undertook an armed rebellion against the British rulers in Odisha in 1817.
He felicitated the families of freedom fighters at Raj Bhavan in presence of Governor SC Jamir.
The BJP underlined its commitment to building a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya in the BJP National Executive meet in Odisha. It said that whenever the Supreme Court takes a decision, it would be very ‘effective’.
Asked if the BJP's National Executive discussed the issue, a core demand of the party, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was not necessary to pick it up in every meeting. However, he added that the party's manifesto has made it clear that it is for a grand temple in the Uttar Pradesh town.
The first day of the BJP National Executive meet saw a roadshow by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and strong political statements made by BJP President Amit Shah and leaders like Ravi Shankar Prasad.
After his arrival at the Bhubaneswar airport, PM Modi partook in a road show – waving at the throngs of people gathered to welcome him.
Amit Shah said that the party has changed the meaning of victory after winning “Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand with a three-fourth majority.” He added, “The BJP should have a chief minister in every state.”
