Over 12 MLAs from the Congress party and around 9 from the JD(S) will take oath as ministers on Wednesday, 6 June, in the HD Kumaraswamy-led Karnataka government. As per the power-sharing agreement between the two parties, the Congress will have 22 ministers and the JD(S) 12, including the chief minister.
The first expansion of the Karnataka cabinet, under the leadership of JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, will take place on Wednesday, 6 June.
According to sources, while over 12 legislators will be of the Congress, around nine MLAs of the JD-S are likely to take oath on Wednesday, 6 June, a fortnight after Kumaraswamy was sworn in as chief minister, PTI reported.
The Congress and the JD(S) have also decided on the allocation of portfolios between them as part of the power sharing agreement.
According to the agreement, Congress will get the portfolios of Home, Irrigation, Bangalore City Development, Industry and Sugar Industry, Health, Revenue, Urban Development, Rural Development, Agriculture, Law and Parliamentary Affairs and IT/BT, among others.
The JDS portfolios include Finance, Excise, Information, Intelligence, Public Works Department, Power, Cooperation, Tourism, Education and Transport.
