Jharkhand BJP President Laxman Giluwa on Wednesday, 26 December, tendered his resignation from the post following party's performance in recently concluded Jharkhand Assembly elections.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren met the governor on Tuesday, 24 December, and staked claim to form the government in the state.
“We have staked claim to form the government in Jharkhand, with the support of 50 MLAs… The oath-taking ceremony will take place on 29 December,” he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) had extended support to the pre-poll JMM-Congress-RJD alliance. Hemant Soren was also formally elected the JMM legislature party leader on Tuesday.
The JMM-Congress-RJD coalition had obtained a majority with 47 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly on Monday.

A day after the JMM-Congress-RJD combine obtained a majority with 47 seats, the Jharkhand Vikas Mocha (Prajatantrik) on Tuesday extended support to the pre-poll alliance.
The support by the JVM(P) came after JMM’s Hemant Soren called on Marandi at his residence, a JVM(P) press release said in Ranchi.
It said that the party will extend support to "the new coalition government-in-waiting".
Reacting to the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance's victory in Jharkhand assembly polls, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said people "have defeated BJP’s attempts to divide the society on caste and religious lines."
In a video recorded statement she said, "The victory is special and of extreme contemporary importance, and the people of Jharkhand deserve special gratitude and congratulations for summarily defeating the BJP and its divisive agenda."
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das conceded defeat in the elections and congratulated JMM's Hemant Soren for the victory.
"It is my resolve to always continue to work for the development of Jharkhand," Das added.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "We respect the mandate of the people of Jharkhand," and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve them for five years.
"BJP is committed towards continuous development in the state," Shah said.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that he is confident that BJP will form government in the state even as trends showed the Congress-JMM combine inching closer to victory.
JMM’s Hemant Soren who is leading in both Barhait and Dumka seats, addressed the media and thanked the people of Jharkhand for the mandate.
“Thank Lalu, Sonia, Rahul and Priyanka for fighting in alliance and reposing their trust in me,” Sored added.
West Bengal Chief Mnister Mamata Banerjee on Monday, 23 December, congratulated the JMM-Congress-RJD combine and said the elections were held amid CAA and NRC protests and the “verdict was in favour of citizens.”

Hemant is leading from Barhait assembly constituency by a margin of 11,668 votes and from Dumka seat by 2,750 votes.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das is trailing behind Saryu Roy in the Jamshedpur (East) constituency by a margin of 4643 votes.
“A lead of about 1500-2000 will continue in the coming rounds of counting. I could win by a margin of 30,000 votes," Roy was quoted by ANI as saying.
Notably, Das had won from the same seat with a margin of 70157 votes in the 2014 Assembly election.
Addressing the media, incumbent CM Raghubar Das said, “These trends are not the final word. There are more rounds of counting to be held. It will not be correct to comment on these trends. I will hold a press conference later in Ranchi.”
Speaking about his rival candidate, he said, “Had Saryu Roy caused damage, I would not have received the votes I have so far. Let me clearly state that we're not only winning, but we'll also form government under the leadership of BJP in the state.”
“The results are not as per our expectation. We will have to accept people's mandate. We will play the role which people's mandate has given us. Let the results come, then we will sit and discuss what to do,” JVM chief Babulal Marandi said, according to news agency ANI.
The party is leading in five seats, according to Election Commission trends. However, in the 2014 assembly elections, it had won eight seats.
There is going to be a clean sweep for the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) in this election, said RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav. "We have fought elections under leadership of Hemant Soren, he is going to be the Chief Minister," he said.
The BJP is engaged in talks with the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and Babulal Marandi’s Jharkhand Vikas Morcha, reports CNN TV18.

BJP leader and incumbent Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das is trailing in Jamshedpur (East).
Congress state unit chief Rameshwar Oraon is in the lead from the reserved seat of Lohardaga.
