Jayalalithaa was sworn in as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, for the second consecutive term, on Monday. Twenty-eight ministers were sworn in along with her at the Madras University Centenary Auditorium in Chennai.
This will be her sixth term as Chief Minister.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated the AIADMK supremo via Twitter:
Soon after she assumed office, freebies and schemes came pouring in:
The stately auditorium has a special significance for Jayalalithaa, as she was first sworn-in as CM here on 24 June 1991 by the then Governor Bhishma Narain Singh. In 2011 too, she took the oath of office at the same premises, while in 2001, the swearing-in ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan.
