Finance Minister Arun Jaitley slapped a civil defamation suit against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Sanjay Singh, Kumar Vishwas, Raghav Chadha, Ashutosh and Deepak Bajpayee in the Patiala House Court on Monday, for making slanderous and defamatory allegations against him over alleged irregularities in the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA).
Jaitley has sought Rs 10 crore in damages. He is also planning to file a separate criminal defamation case against Kejriwal and the others in a lower court, later today.
Jaitley, who headed the DDCA for 13 years, has been accused of not acting against the alleged corruption in the organisation during his tenure. The AAP government in Delhi has demanded that Jaitley should resign or be “removed” from the union cabinet to enable an independent probe.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned following Congress protests seeking Jaitley’s resignation because of the DDCA issue.
