Former member of Parliament from the BJP and the newest member of the Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu addressed the media from the Congress headquarters.

Sidhu said his fight is for the "redemption of Punjab". He added that the drug problem in Punjab is a pressing issue that can no longer be ignored.

He said he was born a Congressman and his official joining of the party on Sunday was his ‘ghar wapsi’. He vowed to end the rule of the Badals in Punjab.

Bhaag baaba Badal bhaag, kursi khaali kar, Punjab ki janta aati hai (run Badal run, empty your seat, the people of Punjab are coming).

He added that he is willing to work under anyone.

I’m a soldier, fighting for Punjab under the Congress high command. BJP chose (SAD) alliance and I chose Punjab.

Badals Retort

In response to Sidhu’s attack on the Badal family and accusations of corruption, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said:

Ye dal badlu hain jo saude karte hain, inhe public nahi jaanti kya? (these defectors are the ones who strike up seedy deals, as if the public doesn’t recognise them).
