The ruling BJP won the high-stakes Jind bypoll in Haryana on Thursday, 31 January, with party candidate Krishan Middha defeating his nearest rival, Digvijay Singh Chautala of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), by 12,935 votes.
Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, Congress party's Shafia Zubair won the Ramgarh bypoll by a margin of 12,228 votes.

Counting of votes for Jind Assembly seat in Haryana and Ramgarh in Rajasthan has started.
Congress's Randeep Surjewala and Jananayak Janata Party's Digvijay Chautala are present at the counting centre in Jind as counting of votes is underway.
Congress is leading in Ramgarh with 9,773 votes while the BJP and BSP trail with 7,094 and 1,005 votes respectively.
According to early trends, Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) is leading with 3,639 votes, BJP is at 2,835 votes and Congress 2,169 votes. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is trailing with 992 votes.
At the end of the 10th round of counting, Congress is leading with a margin of 9,320 votes.
The Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) is leading with 7,892 votes at the end of second round of counting in Jind. The BJP is at 6,554 votes, Congress is at 3,923 votes and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is at 1,365 votes.
At the end of the 13th round of counting in Ramgarh, Congress is leading with a margin of 16,221 votes.
Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) is leading with 11,226 votes at the end of third round of counting in Jind. BJP is at 9,350 votes, Congress at 5,813 votes, Loktantra Suraksha Party (LSP) is at 2,649 votes and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) at 1,760 votes.
The Congress is leading with a margin of 9724 votes at the end of the 19th round of counting in Ramgarh.
The Congress has bagged 78,413 votes, the BJP is at 68,689 votes and the BSP is at 23,745 votes.
The Congress party’s Shafia Zubair on Thursday, 31 January won the Ramgarh bypolls with a margin of 12, 228 votes. While Zubair garnered a total of 83,311 votes, the BJP's Suwant Singh garnered 71,083 votes.
The BJP is leading in Jind with 21,052 votes at the end of fifth round of counting. The Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) is at 15,315 votes and the Congress is at the third spot with 8,813 votes.
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot expressed happiness over the Congress’ victory in Ramgarh bypoll and said that the people have taken a right decision.
“I'm happy that people took a well meditated step. They've taken the right decision. I thank them and express my gratitude. They've given a message at a time when it was much needed. It'll encourage the party ahead of Lok Sabha election,” he said.
Counting has been stopped after Opposition raised doubts of EVM tampering in Jind, CNN-News18 reported.
Ramgarh Congress candidate, after winning the bypolls said that the people know the party believes in working for them.
“People know that we believe in working,” she said.
BJP leading with a margin of 9,408 votes at the end of 7th round of counting in Jind. While the Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) is at 19,403 votes, the Congress has got 11,647 votes.

“There was unlawful assembly which didn’t disperse when we asked them to leave. We had to use slight force to disperse them. Situation normal now. The counting is underway,” Jind SP Ashwin Shenvi said.
The BJP is leading in Jind with 46916 votes, the Jananyak Janata Party (JJP) is at 30956 votes and the Congress has got 19,611 votes at the end of 11th round of counting.
BJP’s Krishan Middha won the Jind bypoll by a margin of 12,935 votes. He garnered a total of 50,566 votes, while JJP's Digvijay Singh Chautala bagged 37,631 votes and Congress candidate Randeep Surjewala came third with 22,740 votes.

BJP's Krishan Middha thanked everyone who supported him and the party after his victory in the Jind bypoll.
"It's their victory. There were big leaders in the contest as well, but we have defeated them too. We will follow the schemes launched by PM and take them forward," he said.
While congratulating the BJP for their victory in the Jind bypoll, Digvijay Chautala of the Jannayak Janta Party said "there were several faults detected in the EVMs".
"We will take up that issue in the internal party meeting first and then it will be briefed before the media," he added.
