Two weeks after Vikas Swarup was named India’s envoy to Canada, Gopal Baglay is ready to replace him as the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Baglay currently heads the division dealing with Pakistan – and belongs to the 1992 batch of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). In his long career, he has also served as deputy high commissioner to Pakistan.
On 16 February, Swarup, the official spokesperson of the MEA, was appointed lndia’s envoy to Canada. An Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1986 batch, Swarup is presently also Additional Secretary in addition to Spokesperson. He is expected to take up his new assignment shortly, an official statement said.
Swarup will replace Arun Kumar Sahu, who is currently working as acting Indian High Commissioner to Canada.
