Only three months after he was expelled from the BJP, the party’s former UP vice-president Dayashankar Singh is all set for a “ghar wapsi,” The Times of India reported.

Singh was expelled after he made derogatory remarks against BSP chief Mayawati in the Parliament. He had likened her to a prostitute, drawing ire from political leaders.

The report added that Singh’s wife, Swati, is also set for her big political debut in the party’s women’s wing. Swati had taken on BSP leaders for using abusive language against her after allegations against her husband came to light.

“Dayashankar’s re-induction was on the cards because BSP’s reaction and Swati’s feisty response, speaking to the media and filing counter cases with police, was seen to have consolidated upper caste sentiments and those of Rajputs – social segments the BJP is betting on,” the report said.

Hinting at the rationalisation behind his return, the report quoted a senior BJP functionary as saying:

“The party is considering Dayashankar’s return since the BSP has not taken action against its senior member Naseemuddin Siddiqui and his supporters, who had used abusive language against the women in Dayashankar’s family”.
