The exit polls of most TV channels showed the BJP was headed for a win in Gujarat, as Assembly elections came to a close on Thursday, 14 December.
The BJP, which has been in power in the state for 22 years, is projected to win the elections this time as well.
Exit polls are usually seen as an indicator of the polling trends, with some proving to be in sync with the final results, but others ending up being inaccurate.
The results for the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be declared on 18 December.

What the Pre-Poll Surveys Show
An earlier analysis of the three pre-poll surveys showed that while the BJP might secure a victory in the Gujarat Assembly elections, the margin of victory would probably be smaller than expected.
The pre-poll surveys were conducted by India TV, Times Now-VMR, and ABP-CSDS in their own capacities.
The analysis, a consolidation of the three pre-election opinion polls, predicts a win for the BJP in Gujarat, with an average of 105-106 seats in its favour.
BJP president Amit Shah had set a target of 150+ seats in Gujarat, which has been a BJP bastion for the last 22 years.
On Wednesday, 13 December, psephologist Yogendra Yadav also drafted a probable three-case scenario for the elections, which sees the BJP, the traditional kingpin in the state, lose in all possibilities.
He predicted that while the BJP virtually holds fort in the urban seats with over 25 seats in its kitty, the same can’t be said for rural and semi-urban seats.
The second and final phase of voting covers 93 constituencies in the North, West and Central parts of the state. Voter turnout for the first phase of the elections for 89 seats, held on 9 December, stood at 66.75 percent.
The high-voltage campaigning in the state ended on 12 December.
