A Day After Quitting, Outgoing L-G Meets Kejriwal ‘for Breakfast’

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the Delhi government and Jung did “very good work” together.

A day after Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung's surprise resignation, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal paid him a brief visit at Raj Niwas, early on Friday morning, before leaving for a scheduled trip to Jaipur. When asked by reporters, Kejriwal said he had been ‘invited for breakfast’ and that the meeting was ‘cordial’, reported CNN-News18.

The Delhi Chief Minister reportedly said the reasons for Jung’s resignations were personal. Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia also paid Jung a visit.

Jung’s tenure as L-G was marked by a sharp escalation in tensions between his office, which reported to the Central government, and Kejriwal's AAP government.

What started as a turf war turned into an often ugly spat between Jung and Kejriwal over who really runs the capital city, which does not enjoy the same status as other states.

Without citing reasons, Jung's office said on Thursday he had submitted his resignation to the Centre. This move caught his biggest detractors by surprise.

Jung's Resignation Surprises Kejriwal

Kejriwal said on Thursday that he was surprised by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung's sudden resignation. "Jung's resignation is a surprise to me," Kejriwal tweeted.

Kejriwal also wished the Lt Governor well for his future.

We Did Good Work for Delhi With Jung: Sisodia

Reacting to this sudden exit, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that despite the bitter turf war, the Delhi government and outgoing Lt Governor Najeeb Jung did "very good work" in Delhi.

"Despite the bitter-sweet experiences (with the Lt Governor), I can say that we did very good work for Delhi along with Jung," the Aam Aadmi Party leader tweeted.

"All the best for the future," Sisodia added.

Congress Questions Najeeb Jung's 'Unceremonious Exit'

The Congress, however, termed Jung's surprise resignation as an "unceremonious exit" and asked if a deal was struck between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kejriwal.

This is an unceremonious exit. Central government will have to tell what happened. We also want to know what is the deal between Modi and Kejriwal, due to which he has been removed. If central government is trying to get some RSS representative (as Lt Governor), we will protest and come on the streets against it.

The Congress leader went on to add, “We feel there has been a deal between the BJP and AAP because of which he has been made to leave. The central government should come out clean."
