With the results of the Delhi Assembly elections coming in, the fate of the national capital will be known in a few hours. The trends show the Aam Aadmi Party leading in 63 seats, while the BJP leads in 7 seats.
So far, here’s what the big picture looks like for the 10 most important constituencies in the national capital.
Chief Minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal, who took a lead in early trends, won the New Delhi seat with over 29,600 votes. Kejriwal defeated BJP’s Sunil Kumar Yadav and Congress’ Romesh Sabarwal.
The Election Commission declared that he won with a margin of 21,697 votes.
Patparganj has also been important over the past year, with the East Delhi seat being Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s home ground.
Early trends on Tuesday showed the Deputy Chief Minister behind his competitors, with a decreasing margin at around 2:00 pm. It was after 2:15 pm that the deputy CM took lead.
AAP’s Rajesh Bansiwala was defeated by BJP’s Vijender Kumar in Rohini, who won with over 12,600 votes, the EC declared.
Gupta had won in 2015 as well, with a margin of over 5,000 votes.
After early trends of the Model Town seat showed a close contest between BJP candidate Kapil Mishra and AAP’s Akhilesh Tripathi, with less than a 100 votes difference between the two, it widened to more than 11,000 votes by 4 pm.
At 5 pm, EC declared that Tripathi won the seat with a margin of more than 16,000 votes.
One of the most charged-up seats in this year’s election is being led by Aam Aadmi Party’s Amanatullah Khan, an expected leader from the seat that is home to Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Millia Isamia University.
Khan won the Okhla seat with one of highest vote margins of more than 70,000 votes.
Congress candidate Haroon Yusuf was ahead for some time when the counting started. By 5 pm, AAP’s Imran Hussain overtook Yusuf, and won with more than 33,000 votes.
AAP’s Raj Kumari Dhillon has won the Hari Nagar seat with a margin of more than 26,000 votes.
BJP’s controversial spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga trailed in the Hari Nagar constituency as per early trends, the margin of which widened by more than 5,600 votes till late afternoon.
After trailing in early trends, AAP’s Atishi Marlena won from the South Delhi seat by more than 7,000 votes, defeating BJP’s Dharambir Singh.
The old Delhi seat, where Congress had fielded Alka Lamba, is being led by Aam Aadmi Party candidate Parlad Singh Sawhney. BJP candidate Suman Kumar Gupta was at the third place.
Sawhney won the seat on Tuesday with a margin of more than 29,500 votes.
AAP had pitched its heavyweight Raghav Chadha from the Rajinder Nagar seat, otherwise a BJP stronghold.
Chadha maintained a comfortable in the early trends, and won the seat by over 20,000 votes, beating BJP’s candidate Sardar RP Singh and Congress’ Rocky Tuseed.
