BJP president Amit Shah met former army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag at his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday, 29 May, as a part of the party's drive to share the Narendra Modi government's success with well-known people from various fields, reported PTI.
The former army chief and the BJP president discussed various issues, including the problems faced by Indian farmers in villages and the plight of India villagers.
"The campaign is aimed at informing people about various government initiatives which have resulted in lifting people's living standards," Amit Shah said, adding that a lot of work had been done to remove the problems people faced in villages and to help the poor live a better life.
Amit Shah also met constitutional expert Subhash Kashyap at his residence as a part of his public outreach campaign.
The BJP launched the 'Sampark for Samarthan' (contact for support) to mark the fourth anniversary of the Modi government, as it prepares for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP, in a statement, said its 4,000 functionaries, including chief ministers, Union ministers, panchayat members, across the country will contact one lakh persons who are recognised names in their fields, to inform them about the government’s achievements.
In its fifth year, the government will aim to bring about a change in farmers' lives by offering them one-and-a-half times of their input cost for their produce. It will also aim to give Rs 5 lakh health insurance coverage to 50 crore people, Shah said.
"Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the country's prestige is at its best in the world since its Independence," he claimed.
Fifty lakh BJP workers identified for the exercise will reach every household, he said.
The party has launched the 'sampark for samarthan' exercise to mark the government's fourth anniversary, which fell on 26 May, as it prepares for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
