Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lawmaker Amanatullah Khan’s sister-in-law stood by the charges of sexual harassment she had levied against him, even as Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the party will not accept his resignation.
Sisodia had rejected the MLA’s resignation as it came after a complaint of eve-teasing filed by his sister-in-law. He deemed it a ‘family matter’.
Khan’s sister-in-law had approached the Jamia Nagar police station alleging that Khan had put pressure on her to indulge in a sexual relationship with him.
She had also accused her husband of demanding dowry and building pressure on her to get intimate with Khan.
Khan had on Saturday written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal apprising him of his resignation from the Waqf Board and all the other government positions that he held.
The resignation came two days after the Anti-Corruption Branch raided the Delhi Waqf Board office in connection with an alleged recruitment scam, said reports.
Stating in his letter that he was tired of justifying himself after false accusations, Khan resigned from “all responsibilities the party has given me”.
Khan was arrested in July for allegedly threatening a 35-year-old woman with dire consequences, but was later granted bail.
The AAP legislator from Okhla constituency found himself in the eye of a major controversy in March this year for his alleged hate speech against the Modi government.
