A delegation of the AIADMK met officials of the Election Commission in New Delhi on Friday, 29 September, to submit documents relating to the retrieval of the ‘two leaves’ symbol.
Speaking to ANI after submitting the documents, AIADMK MP V Maitreyan said they were “200 percent confident of winning the case.”
This comes a day after the EC rejected TTV Dinkaran's plea requesting an additional 15 days to submit the relevant documents and affidavits in the 'two leaves’ symbol case.
The EC will hear the matter next on 6 October.
The Madras High Court had earlier in the month asked the two warring factions to settle their dispute by the end of October. According to The Indian Express, the High Court told the EC to see which faction enjoyed majority and allot the symbol to them.
On 14 September, members from the Dinakaran faction met EC officials, asking them to declare the 12 September AIADMK general meeting – where the merged EPS and OPS factions had ousted VK Sasikala as the general secretary of the party – while also adopting a resolution to restore the two leaves symbol.
The election body had come to a freeze earlier this year after factions led by Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and former AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala declared their claims on the symbol.
