Delhi AAP MLA and party's Gujarat affairs in-charge Gulab Singh surrendered before Surat Police on Sunday and was arrested by Delhi Police after a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) was issued against him in connection with an extortion case.
Singh was arrest hours ahead of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal's public rally in the city.
Before leaving for Umra police station to surrender, Singh told reporters at the circuit house:
Surat Police Commissioner Satish Sharma said that Singh knew before he surrendered at the Umra police station that the Delhi police had arrived in Gujarat with a NBW. The Delhi Police will take Singh to a court to secure a transit remand.
The non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against Singh, who is MLA from Delhi's Matiala, on 14 October for allegedly not joining the probe in the case.
Last month, two property dealers, Deepak Sharma and Rinku Diwan, had alleged that Satish and Devinder, who work in the Gujarat AAP chief’s office, were extorting money from them by threatening to get the building from where they were operating demolished.
Confirming the MLA's arrest, Joint Commissioner of Police, South West Delhi, Deependra Pathak said that Singh will be brought to Delhi on Sunday to join the investigation.
