Soon after Aaditya Thackeray announced, on Monday, 30 September, to contest Assembly polls, he said posts aren’t decided by polls but by people, upon being questioned about his prospects of becoming the chief minister.

"Finally, everything is decided by the people. No post is decided by alliance," he said, speaking to The Quint when asked about seat-sharing arrangement with alliance partner BJP and if it precludes him from becoming the chief minister

He also downplayed the aspect of him being the first person from the family to do so, saying the entire Shiv Sena is his family and his decision isn’t anything new.

“The whole Sena is my family. So it's nothing new for the family,” replying to The Quint, when asked what prompted him to fight the elections when his grandfather, father, and uncle haven’t done so.

Asked if him being a Thackeray helps his chances in the election, Aaditya replied, “This is (because of) the blessings and affection of the people, I am merely taking that forward.”

He urged the media and people to give him blessings when he does something right and correct him when he makes mistakes.

Aaditya, the elder son of party Chief Uddhav Thackeray, on Monday, said he will contest the Assembly elections to be held on 21 October.

Aaditya said he will contest from the Worli Assembly segment in Mumbai. Shiv Sena's sitting MLA Sunil Shinde will vacate his place for Aaditya.
