30 Girls Thrashed for Resisting Sexual Harassment in Bihar, 9 Held
The girls had beaten up some local boys, in self-defence, for harassing them.

The Supreme Court on Monday, 8 October, expressed concern over a horrific incident in Bihar, where over 30 schoolgirls from a government school were beaten up for objecting to sexual harassment and lewd graffiti on walls by local boys, ANI reported.
Nine people have been arrested in connection with the incident, NDTV reported.
Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, the girls’ school where the incident took place, is for children belonging to SC, ST, OBC and minority communities.
The accused were arrested following the registration of an FIR naming nine people, Superintendent of Police Mrityunjay Kumar Choudhary told PTI.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday, 6 September.
A students’ group had asked some local boys who had sneaked into Kasturba Residential School to leave and to stop writing vulgar messages on the walls. Resisting the students’ attempts, the boys’ gang reportedly misbehaved with them. The situation became heated after the girls beat them up in self-defence, NDTV reported, quoting an eyewitness.
“Both the schools are in the same campus with separate buildings and a common playground. The boys allegedly wrote some lewd comments on the wall of the girls’ school, which the minor girls resisted and beat up the boys before chasing them away,” Supaul District Magistrate Baidyanath Yadav told PTI.
Later, the group returned to the school with their parents and relatives and allegedly beat up the girls. After the incident, the FIR was lodged against the locals.
Yadav said 74 girl students were at the playground at the time of the incident and 30 of them received injuries.
All the injured students were admitted to Triveniganj referral hospital, the DM said, adding that 20 girls were released after they were administered first-aid.
The remaining 10 are still undergoing treatment and will be released in a day or two, Yadav said.
