Addressing the media in Ahmedabad, joint-opposition candidate Meira Kumar appealed to the collegium to listen to their “inner conscience” while casting their votes for Presidential elections.
Responding to a question, she said while it made her happy that everyone terms this election a ‘Dalit vs Dalit’ fight, it should be looked as a fight for ideologies. She also said:

Meira Kumar began her Presidential campaign on Friday by visiting Sabarmati Ashram, and paying her tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
Opposition Presidential candidate Meira Kumar will launch her campaign from the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat in the presence of Congress leaders from the state.
Kumar, who arrived in Ahmedabad on 29 June, is scheduled to visit the ashram around 9:30 am and then meet the Congress MLAs at the party headquarters.
In a Facebook post, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury took on the issue of pitting Dalit candidates against each other.
The race for the post of the President of India is not a ‘Dalit vs Dalit’ issue but a fight to “safeguard and strengthen” India republic, he wrote.
He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders of spawning hate, and questioned their “silence” over lynch mobs and attacks against minorities.
After filing her nomination for the presidential elections, Meira Kumar appealed to all the voters to listen to their “inner conscience” and vote for the progress of the country. The “fight for ideology” began with filing my nomination, she said.
Kumar also tweeted that all the leaders reiterated their support after she filed the nomination.
Speaking to the media after Meira Kumar filed her nominations for the Presidential election, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said that this election is a fight for “ideology and truth”.

She was accompanied by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, NCP’s Sharad Pawar, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and TMC’s Derek O’Brien.
The polls are scheduled to be held on 17 July.
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to express support for Meira Kumar.
The Opposition’s presidential candidate “represents the values that bind us as a nation,” he wrote.
On 13 June, Gandhi announced that he was leaving for Italy for a few days.

Opposition’s presidential candidate Meira Kumar will file her nomination on 28 June, the last date for filing of nominations, in the presence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and a number of Opposition leaders.
She will begin her campaign from Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat on 30 June.
According to sources, Kumar will file a set of four nomination papers, which will be proposed and seconded by leaders of a number of Opposition parties.
She will file her papers at 11:30 am in Parliament before the Lok Sabha Secretary General. The Presidential polls are scheduled to be held on 17 July.
Opposition party leaders, including the CPI-M's Sitaram Yechury and the TMC's Derek O'Brien among other leaders, representing Opposition parties like the DMK, SP, BSP, RJS and JMM, will also accompany Kumar during her nomination filing.
The 75-year-old Kumar is the joint Opposition candidate of 17 non-NDA parties against the ruling NDA's nominee Ram Nath Kovind.
