The Angamaly magistrate court in Kerala has extended the remand period of actor Dileep till 2 September, reported Manorama Online.

Dileep, who was arrested on 10 July for alleged assault and abduction of a Malayalam actress, is lodged at the Aluva sub-jail.

The extension of the remand period comes even as the Kerala High Court is hearing Dileep's bail plea.

However, the actor's earlier bail plea, both in the Angamaly court and in the state high court, were rejected.

In a fresh petition, filed last week, Dileep argued that he was not a "kingpin of any criminal conspiracy". According to the report, the petition said:

He is only the unfortunate victim of an orchestrated media campaign and proceedings of a group of police officers acting on the pre-conceived notion of guilt of the petitioner and wanting to implicate him as an accused.
