Fire Breaks out at SSJ International Hotel in Charbagh, Lucknow

A fire broke out inside SSJ International Hotel during the early hours of 19 June. Police said a search operation is underway on the first floor. Five people have been taken to hospital for treatment. The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, they added.

The Karnataka High Court has directed two magistrate courts to submit a report on allegations of custodial torture of four accused in the Gauri Lankesh murder case and non-compliance of judicial procedures.

In an affidavit, advocate N P Amrutesh alleged that Amol Kale, one of the accused in the case, was beaten, slapped and punched on his cheek by police officers while in custody.

"They should submit a report on the allegations within 10 days from the date of receipt of this order," the Court said.

Two Cops Injured in Encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh

Two District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel were injured in an encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, the police said.

The face-off took place in a forest near Tamora village, on the night of 18 June, when a team of DRG was conducting a search operation along the border of Kanker and Narayanpur districts, a senior police official told PTI.

When the patrolling team was cordoning off the forest area near Tamora, a gun-battle took place between the security personnel and ultras, the official said.

After a prolonged exchange of fire, the rebels fled into the core forest area, he said.

"Sub-Inspector Sukku Ram Nureti and head constable Pareshwar Gawde of the DRG sustained injuries in the gunfight," the official said.
