23 December 2017 was an important day in Ranjith Kumar’s life, as that was the day he was to get married.

He set out by road from Palakkad at 6 am for his wedding venue in Kochi, hoping to reach by 11 am. Pretty early, you would think, to make it comfortably in time for his wedding.

But the drama that lay in store was something he couldn’t have prepared for.

After he started his journey, the incessant traffic put a spanner in the works. He soon realised that because of the clogged roads, he wouldn’t be able to make it in time for his own wedding if he continued by car.

So, What Did He Do Next?

As Ranjith and his family reached Aluva, desperate calls from the bride's family started pouring in, advising them to think of an alternative.

That’s when Ranjith decided to abort his car journey midway and instead hitch a ride on the Metro.

At the Aluva station, there was a queue at the ticket counter. But I explained to the people there that it was my wedding. We bought the tickets and quickly grabbed the next train.

Kochi Metro did save the day for a relieved Ranjith who was able to just make it in time for his wedding.

“We hurried through the rituals which got over in five minutes I think,” he added in the video.

As a token of appreciation, the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) on its part, gave away its Kochi1 smart cards to the couple and said, “We weren’t exaggerating when we said Kochi Metro touches lives.”
