In Stats: All the Records India Broke With Series Win vs England 

India’s win against England on Tuesday marked India’s longest undefeated streak, with eighteenth consecutive wins.

India created history when it beat England by an innings and 75 runs in the fifth Test in Chennai. After having drawn the first Test in Rajkot, the hosts won the five-match series 4-0. This victory marks their fifth consecutive Test series win.

The triumph on Tuesday also marked India’s longest undefeated streak, with eighteenth consecutive wins between August 2015 and December 2016. The earlier record was set between September 1985 and March 1987.

Virat Kohli, who bagged his first Player of the Series award in Tests for totalling 655 runs, also became the most successful Indian captain after 22 Tests.

India have won nine Tests (drawn three) out of the 12 played this year (drawn three) – the most wins by India in a calendar year, eclipsing the eight wins out of 14 in 2010 (lost 3 and drew 3).

For the visitors, on the other hand, 2016 marked the most defeats in a calendar year. England lost 8 games, equalling the number of defeats in 1984, 1986 and 1993.

Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, more popularly known as Chepauk, has been home to most wins for the Indian side. Out of the 32 Tests played at the stadium, India has won 14, lost six and drawn twelve.
