Jammu & Kashmir rejoiced on Monday after local cricket hero and offspinning allrounder Parvez Rasool was called up for the T20 series against England.

The BCCI announced that Rasool and leg-spinner Amit Mishra would replace Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the 15-man squad for the series starting on 26 January.

After a successful Ranji, Rasool was selected to play for India A in a warm-up ODI game against England in January 2013, becoming the first cricketer from his state to play an international game.

In July 2013, he was rewarded with his first national call-up for the ODI tour of Zimbabwe. He didn't get a game; but on 15 June 2014, he made it back to the one-day squad for the short tour of Bangladesh.

Almost three years later, here’s a look at what Rasool has been up to in his time away from the Indian dressing room.

Ranji Trophy

Rasool has been an important part of the J&K team ever since his first-class debut in the 2008-09 season.

Since his sole ODI, the 27-year-old has played 25 Ranji matches in which he has scored 1,532 runs, including 10 half-centuries. He also picked 66 wickets in those matches.

In the recently concluded season of the Ranji Trophy, he played 9 matches, where he scored 629 runs at an average of 39.31. He also picked 38 wickets, which included two fifers.

India A

In the lead up to the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against England, Rasool was picked to play a tour game. The all-rounder struck three times, including the wickets of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes, while giving away only 38 runs.

Rasool believes his performance in the match was responsible for him being called up for the Indian squad for the T20 series.

IPL

In the Indian Premier League, Parvez Rasool has played for Pune Warriors, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. In the six T20 matches he played after his India debut, the J&K cricketer has scored 12 runs and picked just 2 wickets.
