Wani’s Successor Zakir Musa Threatens Kashmir’s Panchayat Election

Slain Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani’s successor Zakir Musa has released another video on Monday. In the video, obtained by The Quint, Musa has threatened the supporters of panchayat elections and slammed the Indian media for showing them in the wrong light.

Sitting in front of a wall cabinet holding walkie talkie, guns and ammunitions, Musa said:

As far as the matter of panchayat elections is concerned, this time there will be no warning. Whoever participates in this, will be responsible for his/her own life.

Musa had released his last video on 2 December.

Asking the people to keep up the protests that began after Burhan Wani was killed, Musa asked the people of Kashmir to not fall for “tricks” by the Indian side.

He condemned the attacks on the houses of Kashmiris that took place after Wani was killed in Kokarnag region and asked the people of Kashmir to trust the Mujahideen to do the right thing.

‘Indian Media Presents us in the Wrong Light’

The Indian media, said Musa, has showcased the wrong side of Hizbul Mujahideen.

I want to ask the Indian media which plays matters out of proportion and calls us blood-thirsty. How do we appear blood-thirsty to you? We are just like normal people. We also lived in our homes before. It is because of the torture of Indian government that we had to take up guns.

Musa claimed that the Indian soldiers are afraid of the Mujahideen ‘soldiers’ and therefore come in thousands to kill one of them and meet a single AK-47 with grenades.

Musa also said that the soldiers are given alcohol before encounters with the Mujahideen so they do not “piss their pants”.

SPO Recruitemnt

Speaking about the Indian government’s effort to recruit the youth of Kashmir as Special Police Officers (SPO), Musa claimed that the Indian government is trying to resurrect the ‘Ikhwaan culture’ in Kashmir.

The youth of Kashmir had defied Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s call to boycott the government recruitment drive for the position of Special Police Officers (SPO) in September.

Threatening the people who support the recruitment drive, Musa said:

Like you know, India’s latest tactic is to recruit SPOs (Special Police Officers) from Kashmir. They wish to resurrect the Ikhwaan culture and want people in Kashmir to fight among each other. We request you to not participate in this and whoever choses to do so will be responsible for their own life.
