Young Muslim Men Clean Temples in Flood-Hit Chennai

Chennai citizens carry out selfless relief work, cutting across the boundaries of faith.

As Chennai grapples with the aftermath of the worst floods, one thing which has found wider resonance on social media is the selfless relief work carried out by common citizens, cutting across the boundaries of faith.

Be it the Hindus opening up the doors of temples to provide relief or the Muslims offering their mosques as a shelter to thousands of flood affected in the city, the tragedy has set an unprecedented example of humanity.

There are countless stories of heartwarming humanity. One such story has now emerged about a group of Muslim youth cleaning religious places in flood-hit Chennai. A picture shared by the country’s public broadcaster, Prasar Bharti, shows young Muslim men cleaning a temple.

According to a report, around 50 members of Jamaat-E-Islami Hind have been cleaning mosques and temples in the flood hit areas of Chennai.

Hindus are unable to worship at temples in some areas because they have been severely affected by the floods. So, we cleaned the mosques and temples and the streets badly damaged in the two areas. In the coming week, we will do similar work in other areas of the city.
