A 28-year-old was found murdered, after allegedly being raped, on Thursday, 17 May, in a one-bedroom flat in Bhopal. The post-mortem reports also revealed that beer and soft drink bottles were found inserted in her private parts, Hindustan Times reported.

The woman was from Icchawar town in Sehore district and was living in a rented accommodation in Bhopal’s Pragati Nagar, the report added.

The residents of the locality informed the police after a foul smell started emanating from the house. The police told the daily that the woman was found naked and her body was partially decomposed suggesting the murder took place a few days earlier.

According to a report by NDTV, the police, on Thursday, arrested her husband who had earlier been absconding. Quoting the police, the report added that although the police is investigating the sequence of events, the man has told the cops that the deceased woman was his fourth wife and while his first two wives had left him, his third wife had died under mysterious circumstances.

People who knew the couple have told the police that the husband used to suspect the woman of having an affair, reported NDTV.

The Madhya Pradesh capital has infamously been at the centre of several rapes cases. Last year, the gang rape of a 19-year-old UPSC aspirant sparked heavy outrage.

In March, the local police paraded four rape accused on the streets in a bid to shame them for the crime.
