Neelam Sharma, 25-year-old woman police constable, was attacked with acid in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh by two car-borne assailants while she was on her way to duty on Thursday, 4 April.
She is said to have sustained 40 percent burn including severe injuries on her face and right side of her body. She was immediately rushed to a district hospital from where she was referred to Agra for better treatment.
Sharma was attacked around 4 am in the morning while on her way to Krishna Janam Bhoomi temple.
The police told The Quint that Neelam and one Sanjay Singh had some old dispute following which he threw acid on her.
Singh, one of the two accused persons, threw the acid on her before running away. She is currently in a private hospital's ICU and is under observation as her condition is critical.
