The department of telecom (DoT) on Friday, 14 December, notified the rules for inflight connectivity (IFC), which means passengers on board will be able to avail WiFi facilities as they fly in or over the Indian airspace, The Times of India reported.
The move comes 11 months after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) issued its recommendations on IFC.
According to the report, interested parties can apply for license from the DoT and act as service providers for airlines wishing to provide on board internet connectivity.
Big telecom companies, including Airtel and Jio, are interested in providing IFC, the report said.
