Vyapam Scam: 4 Accused Get 4 Years Imprisonment

The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam case has seen over 2,000 arrests since 2013.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, on Tuesday, 31 July, awarded four years imprisonment to each of the four accused in the Vyapam scam case of 2013, ANI reported.

The scam is related to irregularities in admission and recruitment in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) and involved several politicians, senior officials and businessmen.

The case has witnessed over 2,000 arrests since 2013. Former Madhya Pradesh Education Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Laxmikant Sharma was among the 87 accused named in the Central Bureau of Investigation chargesheet in the Vyapam scam in February.

The scam involved examinations conducted by Vyapam for the selection of medical students and state government employees. Around 3.2 million students took the exam in 2013, ANI reports.
