Stepping up pressure on the government to enact a legislation for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, the VHP on Sunday, 9 December, put on a massive show of strength in the capital where RSS leader Suresh 'Bhaiyyaji' Joshi made a veiled attack at the BJP for not fulfilling its poll promise on the temple issue.
Thousands of people wearing saffron caps and raising slogans such as 'We don't want sample, we want temple' and 'Ram rajya phir layenge, mandir wahin banayenge' (will bring Ram rajya, construct a temple there), packed the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.

On being asked about BJP chief Amit Shah reportedly hinting that such a bill may not be possible in the upcoming winter session, the joint secretary of the VHP, Surendra Jain, said he will not comment on specific individuals.
"If, in any case, the bill does not come in this winter session, then the future course of action will be decided at the next dharam sansad, which will be held in Allahabad on the sidelines of the Mahakumbh on 31 January and 1 February," Jain said.
RSS general secretary Suresh Joshi, along with VHP's president Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje and its international working president Alok Kumar, will address the rally, Jain added.
According to a report by the Economic Times, the VHP plans to bring in ‘Ram-bhakts’ from UP districts near Delhi like Chaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Baghpat, Meerut etc.
The report also states that the organisation will build makeshift "swagat dwars" (welcome gates) in over 15 entry points in Delhi where those coming in from UP will be served food and water as soon as they enter Delhi. Nearly 1,500 buses are believed to have been hired to bring people from 200 kms around Delhi to the venue
VHP members and workers have gathered in large numbers at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to demand for a Bill for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
Ahead of the rally, the Delhi police on Sunday issued a statement to list out traffic diversions in the wake of the VHP rally.
VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal told The Quint that the Parliament must bring in a law to overcome “technical flaws” for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
“We are conducting Dharm Sabhas all across the country in every constituency. A law should be brought in for the construction of the temple. The technical flaws for the construction of the temple need to be overcome. ”
Senior RSS leader Suresh 'Bhaiyyaji' Joshi made a veiled attack on the BJP for not fulfilling its promise of constructing Ram Temple in Ayodhya and demanded the Union government to enact a legislation, if need be, for it.
Speaking at a VHP rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, the RSS executive head said:
"Those in power today had promised to construct Ram Temple. They should listen to people and fulfil the demand of temple in Ayodhya. They are aware of the sentiments." Without naming the BJP, Joshi added, "We are not begging for it. We are expressing our emotions. The country wants 'Ram rajya'."
Religious leaders are confident about the Narendra Modi government completing necessary "formalities" for construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) functionary said.
"The VHP and and religious leaders are confidentthat the Narendra Modi-led government will complete all formalities, including making a law, when it comes to the construction of a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya", VHP Secretary Umashankar Sharma said.
Sharma said Modi had emerged as a "unanimous choice" as the prime ministerial candidate in 2014, after the religious leaders were "convinced" that he could build the temple at the disputed site.
The VHP leader said the Members of Parliament (MPs) who would not support the passage of lawfor construction of the temple will face defeat in the 2019 polls.
