A Varanasi police officer was allegedly attacked by a mob led by a man and his family on Sunday, 9 June, when the cop and his team were investigating an illegal water plant owned by the accused.
Deepak Srivastava, a part of the Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd Police, was checking the water plant in Virat Nagar Colony of Varanasi’s Pandeypur area when he was attacked, news agency ANI reported.
“Officer Deepak Srivastava had received info about illegal water plants. He was checking that. Plant of an Imrati Lal was one of them, he along with his family and few others misbehaved and beat the officer up. An FIR has been registered. They'll be arrested and action will be taken,” Varanasi SP told ANI.
Responding to the video uploaded by UttarPradesh.ORG News on Twitter, Uttar Pradesh police directed the Varanasi police to look into the matter.
Varanasi Police had replied that a case had been registered in Varanasi’s Cantt police station.
In another tweet, Varanasi police mentioned the various sections under which the FIR had been registered.
