Results for the urban local body polls in Uttarakhand are likely to be announced on Tuesday, 20 November, as counting of votes is underway.
The ruling BJP and two Independents won two seats each in the mayoral and chairman positions, news agency IANS reported.
According to the report, the BJP was leading in six other seats, the Independents in four, and the Congress in two.
In a major jolt to the BJP, the Congress was ahead in six seats of the Dehradun municipal Corporation, News 18 reported. It is not clear if this includes the two seats that the Congress was leading in.
Out of the 84 urban local bodies, seven are corporations, 39 municipal councils and 38 town panchayats, the Hindustan Times reported.
According to news agency ANI, around 4,978 candidates across the state are contesting the elections.
Alleging irregularities in the voters' list, the ruling BJP on Monday, 19 November, demanded a high level probe and asked the state election commission to punish the officials responsible.
Alleging that the names of a large number of eligible voters, including BJP supporters, were missing from the list, Bhatt said the matter was serious and called for an investigation.
In some instances, the voters’ names were wrongly printed on the list, and in others, ineligible voters were included in the list, Bhatt said.
"It is not acceptable. BJP has suffered due to these irregularities. 2019 Lok Sabha polls are approaching. More caution should be maintained regarding the voters' list," he said.
