A US national who was allegedly gangraped by five men in Delhi’s Cannaught Place in March filed an FIR over email on Friday, reports Hindustan Times.
The police are trying to verify the email sent to the Commissioner of Delhi police and record the woman’s statement in the case. She has expressed willingness to travel to Delhi to do so.
One of the five men, who gangraped her in a five-star hotel in the heart of Delhi, was a tourist guide. The men related to a travel agency, the woman claims in the email, entered her room to discuss the route map, police sources told Hindustan Times.
The shocked woman returned to the US immediately after and did not speak about the incident with anyone.
With the help of a friend and an NGO, she sent an email to the commissioner who sent it to the CP police station. The police launched an investigation and informed the US embassy in Delhi.
Responding to media reports, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj took note of the incident and asked Delhi’s LG Najeeb Jung to take action.
