The Supreme Court on Monday, 19 August, granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) an extension of two weeks to complete its probe in the accident involving the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer.

The CBI had earlier sought four weeks’ time from the apex court to complete the probe, saying the statements of Unnao rape case survivor and her lawyer were yet to be recorded. The court was told that the survivor and her lawyer continue to be in critical condition, reported ANI.

The SC also ordered that an interim compensation of Rs 5 lakh be given to the family of the lawyer to meet his medical expenses.

Survivor Still Critical

The survivor and her lawyer are currently fighting for their lives, after being gravely injured in the car collision, which took place on 28 July. Two of her aunts died in the accident. The woman is battling for her life at AIIMS in Delhi.

The woman, who was a minor then, was allegedly raped by expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar on 4 June 2017 and the three persons on 11 June 2017.

Sengar, a four-time legislator who represents Bangermau constituency in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, is lodged in jail since April 2018.
