3 Killed in Shahjahanpur Building Collapse, Contractor Arrested

At least 14 others were resuced from the rubble, while several more are believed to be trapped underneath the debris

The contractor of the under-construction building that collapsed in Shahjahanpur on Sunday, 14 October, was arrested and a case has been registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police. Three people were killed in the building collapse.

Speaking to ANI, Amrit Tripathi, District Magistrate, said that while the owner has not been traced yet, investigations are currently underway.

At least 14 others were rescued from the rubble, while several more are believed to be trapped underneath the debris, even as rescue work is underway.

Speaking to PTI, the district magistrate Amit Tripathi identified two of the deceased labourers as Manoj Sharma, 25, and Parmeshwar, 22.

Tripathi told HT that the NDRF had also been listed for help, and would provide assistance as and when required in the relief work.

Earlier, Sadar Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ramji Mishra said, "The roof of an under-construction building of a private inter-college collapsed when over a dozen labourers were working in it. "

The incident occurred in an area under Ram Chandra Mission police station in the district, he said, adding the rescue work has already been started.

"JCB machines and cranes have been pressed into service to rescue them," he said.

All the injured persons were sent for treatment to nearby hospitals, the SDM said, adding the rescue work is still going on.
