Uber has suspended a driver after a 33-year-old woman who was travelling with her five-year-old daughter filed a complaint with the police, accusing him of verbal harassment.

In an oral complaint to the Jnanabharathi police, the woman alleged that 28-year-old Suresh Venkateshappa had misbehaved with her and also verbally abused her mother, according to a report in The Times of India.

However, the driver was let off with a stern warning after the she told the police that she did not pursue the case.

Narrating the incident, the woman said that the cab was booked by her husband for her from Electronics City to Kengeri, however, arrived one hour late. During the journey, he apparently made calls and complained that the trip was too long and blamed her for booking the trip.

I argued, saying he should not have accepted the trip if he didn’t want to go that far. He shouted back, saying he wasn’t talking to me. I was afraid he would harm me and my child, so I kept quiet.
The victim was quoted as saying by the paper.

On nearing the destination, the driver, she claims, refused to drop her at her doorstep. When she complained to her mother about what had happened, the driver allegedly challenged them saying, “My name is Suresh and this is my cab number. Now do whatever you want. I know nothing can be done,” and whizzed away.

The lady then informed the police control room about the incident.

Uber, meanwhile, has suspended the driver until it completes a formal investigation, the report said.
