A driver working with app-based taxi aggregators such as Uber, has been arrested for having masturbated in front of a female passenger on Sunday, 15 April, in Delhi.
As reported by The Hindu, investigations revealed that the man was also carrying a fake driver’s license.
The man, Mewat native Shokeen Khan, was arrested on the night of the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police Madhur Verma told The Hindu.
The report mentions that the woman, who is employed in a private company, was on her way from work in the Uber, when Khan began to masturbate in front of her.
The incident reportedly took place somewhere near the National Museum on Janpath.
Verma added that the police had concluded that Khan’s license, which was fake, had not been checked by the concerned cab-aggregators. Khan is currently under police custody.
Uber, The Hindu reports, is yet to comment on the incident.
The case of a man posing as an Uber driver and misbehaving with female passengers, is not an isolated one.
Earlier in March, a man pretending to be an Uber driver allegedly abducted and sexually harassed a woman after she boarded his cab in Haryana. The woman soon realised that neither did the driver’s face match the picture the app provided on her phone, nor did the car have a commercial number-plate.
Uber’s response at that point of time had been that the company had initiated action against the driver in question and were cooperating with the police in the investigation.
