Twitter had temporarily suspended the official account of Indian Army’s 15 Corps, also known as Chinar Corps on Friday, 7 June. However, the account was made active and verified soon after the suspension, but it had cost them almost all their followers.

After getting re-verified, Chinar Corps tweeted about the same as well.

The suspension was a surprise to the army officials in Kashmir as well as New Delhi, according to The Print.

Right after the official account was re-verified, it had 288 followers, which was a fall from 40.3K followers. However, currently they have 42K followers, having regained them through the day.

The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army is at the frontline of fighting Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Its area of operation includes Kashmir and the Line of Control, LoC.

Army Officials said it was unclear why the account was suspended in the first place, reports NDTV.

The Quint reached out to Twitter via mail and they confirmed that the account was made active and verified.

Method to Dispel Fake Information

A few years ago, the army had instructed all important corps to have their own social media handles to make sure the correct information reaches the public.

Therefore this handle of the Indian Army was a source of official information about various operations undertaken in Kashmir.

It was a method devised by the army to dispel fake information and counter propaganda.
