Yakub Memon’s hanging had attracted sympathisers for the lone death row convict of the 1993 Mumbai blast. He had been in jail for more than two decades.

But the Governor of Tripura did not take the display of sympathy well.

A proud swayamsevak, Tathagata Roy said his mourners were potential terrorists.

The tweet induced various kinds of reactions, most of them pointing in one direction.

After causing the furore on Twitter, Tathagata Roy tweeted a series of explanations, calling his comment to be in favour of national security.

The swayamsevak also refused to have targeted a particular community.

In an interview to CNN-IBN, the 70-year-old governor also asked what was wrong in suspecting them?

He will stand by his comments, he said.

Questions about his position as a Governor being compromised were also asked.

The comment may not affect his position but Tripura’s governor has surely caused a furore on Twitter.
