Delhi’s Tis Hazari court on Monday, 5 August, ordered the expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and co-accused Shashi Singh to be shifted to Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with the Unnao rape case. Both the accused are to be produced before the court again on 7 August.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court directed on Monday the Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer to be shifted from Lucknow to AIIMS in New Delhi for treatment.
The Rajasthan legislative Assembly, on Monday, passed a Bill providing for life imprisonment and a fine up to Rs 5 lakh to convicts in cases of mob lynching involving the victim's death.
The Rajasthan Protection from Lynching Bill, 2019 was passed by the Vidhan Sabha by a voice vote amid vociferous protest by the opposition BJP, which wanted the Bill to be referred to a Select Committee.
The Bill was introduced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal in the state Assembly last week.
The Indian equity benchmark S&P BSE Sensex fell as much as 418.38 points or 1.13 percent to end at 36,699.84 in the closing session on Monday, 5 August.

Earlier during the day, markets opened in the red, tracking losses in Asian peers. The S&P BSE Sensex had fallen as much as 1.4 percent to 36,593.32 and the NSE Nifty 50 slipped as much as 1.44 percent to 10,838.65.
A 39-year-old Indian man was found guilty on Monday of molesting an air stewardess on a flight from Cochin to Singapore in 2017, according to PTI.
Vijayan Mathan Gopal, who is a Singapore permanent resident, was convicted of three counts of outraging the modesty of the 22-year-old Scoot air stewardess on 2 November 2017, Channel News Asia reported.
The victim, whose identity is protected by gag order, gave evidence during the trial that she did not know the man before he boarded the plane that day.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said she will meet representatives of various sectors and “fairly quickly” come out with steps to help them, according to PTI.
Sitharaman, who on Monday, met the heads of public and private sector banks, is scheduled to hold similar meetings during the week with representatives of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and automobile sectors, industry chambers, markets, real estate and homebuyers.
“Essential idea behind these meetings is to hear from them and fairly quickly after that come up with something which will help those sectors which are giving their views to us,” she said.
