What if your school paid you Rs 10 for showing up everyday? What if they built your family a private toilet for good attendance?

The 92 families, whose children study at the Pardada Pardadi Educational Society-run school in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, no more have to wander off to fields or the stream in the middle of the night to defecate.

This school has gone a step ahead from incentivising education to incentivising hygiene and healthy living.

Gayatri Verma in Class XII is one such recipient of a toilet.

We used to defecate in fields and the stream, but now we don’t need to. On the contrary, often our neighbours come home to use our private toilet

The founder of the school is Virender Sam Singh, an NRI, who came back from the US after 40 years to work for the society.

From 45 students in 2000 to now more than 1500 kids and a waiting list, the school has made a mark in the area.
