30-year-old law student Jisha was sexually assaulted and murdered at her home in Perumbavoor on 28 April. Three weeks on, Jisha’s killer and rapist is still at large.

When state-wide outrage erupted initially over the delay in nabbing the culprit, the police consistently came up with ‘leads’, only to reach a dead-end soon after. When the protests were directed at the police force, the investigating team was ‘improved’, which gave people hope that they are looking at a situation in which the police is sure about their course of action and that the culprit would be brought to book soon.

Amid all the media frenzy in the initial days, it was impossible for the police to not reveal possible developments in the case.

DGP TP Senkumar had earlier said that the protests against the police would in no way benefit the investigation.

The police is juggling between election duties and other duties, the same officers are expected to do everything.

Weeks later, after Jisha’s rape and murder case could no more reap political advantage. The outrage has limited itself to cover photos and forgotten posts on Facebook. The election has come and gone, so has the uproar over delay in investigation.

The police seem to be groping in the dark even now, as the DGP prefers to reiterate the age-old line –“We have got evidence against the culprit and all that is left is to nab him.”
